One thing that will mark the entry of the new generations into the world, the children
who are now entering or leaving college or entering the work force is the level of caring they have for others and their connection
to each other. I experienced this with one of my children who, at a meeting of financial advisors at his college, listened
to them lecture about money and accumulating wealth and then, when they took questions, asked them what they did for their
community and how they used their wealth to help others. He told me that none of them did any of that and were surprised by
the question.
I was so proud of him because he didn't talk about how much he admired these men, who
were all quite wealthy, but expressed his disappointment that they were only focused on making more money. During our
talk, my son wondered when they thought they would have enough money. I wanted to give him a big kiss! This is the hallmark
of the new generations, who may be interested in money because they know what it can do, but they have no interest in accumulating
money for its own sake and not giving back to their communities. They know how much people suffer with the way the world is
today and do not want to be part of that paradigm.
These are talented and creative children and they will know how to create wealth, but
they won't use it in ways that don't benefit the world. They will always have a big picture view of the world and are fully
aware that everything they do impacts everyone else. This is the first generation to know globalism, to have strong virtual
friendships and to feel connected to everyone in the world. They are also the generation that will refuse to fight in wars
because they would be killing their friends.
We who have lived through the excesses of the late 20th century know that it is time for
a new vision of the world and we created a generation who will make that vision a reality. We can have a world without war,
end starvation, domination and exploitation, we can end entitlement and create a world that operates within the concept of
plenty and sharing, and our 'caring generations' will see that this happens. There will be those who want more than anyone
else but they will be the minority and those who care and share will more than make up for the others. So take a moment to
thank your son or daughter who is of this 'caring generation' and if they are a little doubtful or confused about what they
want to do right now, know that whatever they do, they will do in a way that benefits everyone and whatever they make they
will find a way to share it with others.
