The Evolution of Intuition to Power by Lord Melchizedek
| | The Evolution of Intuition to Power by Lord Melchizedek
Channelled through Natalie
Glasson- 27th February 2015- www.omna.org
Expressions of love continue
to flow with ease and perfection from my being, Lord Melchizedek, into your entire vibrational being. We resonate and exist
in oneness; perfection is our natural vibration as we are all experiencing complete processes of integration with the divine
source of the Creator. Perfection is your truth, your essence and existence. To allow yourself to exist as an expression of
the Creator in every given moment is the perfection of your being and the Creator. Perfection isn’t about being flawless,
exact, correct or accomplished in your everyday existence, more so the perfection of the Creator speaks of integration, resonance,
alignment and experiencing the divine flow of the Creator surging through your being. You are already the perfection of the
Creator, in order to enhance your ability to accept yourself in this way there is a need to enhance your intuition and inner
power, in truth recognising the tools you already possess to express the Creator. As you surrender to the Creator allowing
the divine Universe to work through you, there will no longer be a need to create or force the presence of perfection from
within you or into your daily reality. When you allow the Creator to flow through your being you recognise perfection manifesting
within you and around you free from your effort, due to the fact you are dancing in complete harmony with the rhythm of the
Creator.
Many of you are following your inner spiritual evolution and ascension with much
dedication and devotion, you may also be wondering upon some level within your mind what the outcome and purpose is for the
current ascension. It is my wish to share some insights with you which you can imprint into your being as energetic templates
of creation, if you so wish, to aid the manifestation of truth upon the Earth. Imagine a world where every person including yourself
followed their intuition for every moment of the day. Each person personally understood what food and drinks were appropriate
for their physical bodies, how to heal their physical bodies, how to create exactly what they needed and how to live a happy
and prosperous life, supporting the happiness of others as well. Contemplate for a moment how amazing this would actually
be. You and all people would be able to see through all forms of illusion upon the Earth; you would be able to understand
if another was dishonest or honest, if something was harmful or nourishing. If you became ill you would be able to ask within
and discover the most appropriate way to heal yourself, even discovering the reason for the illness so it never reoccurred
in your reality. No longer would you require to seek guidance outside of yourself because of your deep connection to your
intuition which is your inner knowingness, your inner library, your connection to the divine flow of the Creator. Such
a simple process of accessing and following your intuition within you could shift and change your own reality while altering
the world into a space of love.
Intuition flows from a space of love to create an experience and existences of
love. Intuition is an aspect of the Creator working through you wishing to create an example of the Creator; of truth, love,
bliss, harmony, happiness and peace. All conflict within your being, between yourself and other, between countries, between
religions and egos would all dissolve with the active use of intuition. Fulfilment would be the focus and yet it would be
a fulfilment born from love to create more expressions of the Creator’s love upon the Earth.
In the Era of Love, love is
the key, as intuition within each person enhances and develops so love within and outside of each person magnifies, thus a
process of awakening power within will emerges. This process born from love and to support the Era of Remembrance upon the
Earth will allow for each person to merge with and understand their inner power. Accessing your inner power is your
divine right, as a human being it is something you may have been steered away from in order to supress and maintain control
over humanity. Those upon the Earth who currently and in the past have supported and created the suppression of humanity and
each person’s individual power may feel as if they are protecting humanity, as it is true inner power can wield chaos
if unfocused. Yet each person is an amazing being of light capable of bringing peace and harmony to all situations and the
world. Through the Era of Love and the Era of Remembrance you may notice in your own personal reality and upon the Earth control
and suppression of power born from love will begin to collapse and dissolve, to allow freedom to your intuition and ability
to express your own power.
When you are connected with and act from your intuition you are naturally existing
as and drawing from your power. This is a healthy, happy and harmonising space for you to exist within and navigate your physical
reality as.
I, Lord Melchizedek, with the support of my energy wish to invite you to contemplate
and bring your awareness to all the times you give your power away during your daily routine. Giving your power away can be,
not using your intuition, believing you do not know the answer or the most appropriate decision to make, doing something because
someone tells you to, feeling pressured or stressed, respecting the opinion of others over your own, feeling inadequate, creating
negative or judgmental thoughts about yourself and others, being angry or even following fashions of any form. There are so
many examples and yet giving your power away is to diminish your power, to weaken yourself in anyway or to loose connection
with the truth and essence within your being. I wish to encourage you to notice any moments, experiences or thoughts which
lead to you moving away from love and into disconnection and suppression. Maybe even note each experience so you can evaluate
and explore it in your own quiet time. Most probably all of your experiences of disempowerment are due to your beliefs and
habits. It is time to let these go as it is your purpose upon the Earth to be a loving powerful intuitive being of light.
In moments of lack of power and intuition bring your focus back to the love which is always present within your heart chakra
and your Angelic Guides who always surround you lovingly, safeguarding and protecting you at all times. Know you are loved
and it is your purpose to be love.
‘I am loved and I choose to be love.’
Encourage yourself to connect
with your intuition, to ask within you for guidance and assistance, instantly by doing so you have accepted and wielded your
power even if at first no guidance forms. You are already existing in your power.
With this practice emotions
may wish to be released such as anger, disappointment, depression or frustration, this is natural and is in fact the main
purpose of my process of observing all situations of lack of power. When you supress yourself in anyway or feel you are controlled
even if you do not realise it such energies as anger and resentment can rise from within your being, these are then often
supressed, as you do not feel able to recognise or release the energies. Through the process you are giving yourself the opportunity
to release such energies which may have been embedded within your being for your entire lifetime. When these energies rise
or to heal yourself now you may wish to work with my energies:
‘Lord Melchizedek, the Universal Level of
Light and the Universal Angels, I call upon your loving and healing vibrations to surround me. I wish to dissolve all emotions,
thoughts, feelings, wounds and scars caused by myself and others connected to disempowerment. May your healing energies flow
through my being encouraging me to release all unneeded energies, habits and perspectives creating healing, love and enhanced
resonance to the Creator. Please support me in successfully releasing all aspects of disempowerment, encouraging me to further
develop my intuition and expression of love. I am healed, I am loved, I accept my wonderful intuition and inner power.’
Simply sit peacefully, exhaling
and inhaling, as if through your heart chakra as we work with your energies.
Dissolving all disempowerment is an essential
key to forming the Era of Love within your being and upon the Earth. When love is present so is the power and perfection of
the Creator. Through the Era of Love the Creator is asking all including Mother Earth to return to their power, the essence
and perfection within.
I wish to invite you to recognise if you are creating relationships of disempowerment
in your current reality or past experiences. This could be when you worshipped another, when you allowed yourself to feel
inadequate or not good enough, or maybe when you gave of yourself when it was not appropriate. Whatever the experience or
scenario, it is appropriate for you to now call your energies and power back to you in order to empower yourself, dissolve
connection which may be draining you and to bring completion to cycles of disempowerment. I, Lord Melchizedek, wish to support
you in doing so:
‘Lord Melchizedek, the Universal Level of Light and the Universal Angels,
I call upon your loving and healing vibrations to surround me. Please assist and protect me during my ceremony of moving from
disempowerment to empowerment thus further awakening the powerful love vibrations within me.
With the assistance of my
soul, I now ask and call back all energy and power I have given to others through processes, experiences and scenarios of
disempowerment. May this energy and power be returned to me, cleansed and purified completely before anchoring into my being
and especially my sacral chakra. I ask the Angels to fill my being with love and to share Angelic love with those who accepted
my power so they can continue to be supported. I am ready and willing to receive myself fully as my complete loving power.
Thank you.’
Simply sit peacefully, exhaling and inhaling, as if through
your heart chakra as we work with your energies.
Your intuition is your power, engaging and expressing
the love of the Creator within your reality, thus manifesting the Era of Love for your personal experience.
With Divine Love and Truth Lord Melchizedek

Know Yourself as Happiness, February 28, 2015 God said: You may love solitude because, with
just you and Me, you have a break. With Me, you don’t have to talk. When you and I talk together, you know what you
mean to say and become clearer. We just are. We speak in Oneness. You may love just to be, just to be One with Me, which
is to say, One with your Self. It is simplicity itself, Our being together and out of the parade that passes by that you don’t
always want to march in. With Me, you are in My Light, yet you are, so to speak, away from the betting tables. There
are some of My children who love the stimulus of the world, and they love to roam in it. They drink in every flavor of life
in the world, and they excel in it all. They may be riotous in it. And, of course, there are many betwixts and betweens. I
say to enjoy all directions. Enjoy being quiet when you love quiet. Enjoy being the life of the party when you enjoy being
the life of the party. You know what? Simply enjoy, and don’t bother yourself with self-itemization. Just be what you
are at the moment you are. Let go of before and after. Enjoy the moments with Me, and enter into all the other moments when
you think of Me and when you don’t, and enjoy them as well. Enjoy the plateaus and enjoy the wild rides. Enjoy whatever
you enjoy, and be glad. Enjoy being good to one another. Everyone knows what this means. Hearten one another with the
life of your spirit. Be happy, and the world is a happy place. There is no need to search for happiness, for happiness
is here, right here, right now. It is said that happiness is where you find it. Beloveds, happiness is where you are. Be happy
where you are. Happiness is called for. Be good at it. And, yet, happiness is not something you do. Often, when you
think about happiness, happiness gets lost. With effort, happiness loses its place in the Universe and doesn’t find
itself. Happiness does not have to be pursued. Happiness links itself with Being without examination of your state of happiness.
There can be a focus you seek that when you find it evokes Eureka! There is more to happiness than something eventful
and new, yet every moment of happiness is new, for happiness itself is ever new. The more you insist on happiness may
be the more that happiness escapes you. Happiness just doesn’t want to be the star of the show. Happiness just wants
to be present and not stared at. Happiness just doesn’t require medals pinned on it. When happiness is self-conscious,
it is uncomfortable, as if happiness were a commodity. Happiness is more of a quality of Being left alone to find its own
way. Happiness can be elusive when it is chased. Happiness isn’t an action. It is a State of Being. You might
bite into a juicy apple and call that happiness. Appreciation accompanies happiness. Come to think of it, appreciation is
good at happiness. Gladness is happiness. Happiness doesn’t have to be a great moment in your life. It doesn’t
have to be a milestone. Happiness comes along in life, in being alive, in appreciation of your partaking in life, yes, this
life on Earth. Happiness is not meant to be separate from life. It goes hand in hand with life. Happiness, small or
large, is a flavor you endow to life as you live it. Fast or slow, happiness is something you bestow upon life. It is you
yourself who ennoble your life with happiness. You bestow happiness. Bestow it generously. Happiness will follow you. Welcome
it. May happiness be your silent partner and go everywhere with you, something like your name. Know your very self as Happiness. |

Father/Source: On Earth As It Is In Heaven
|
Father:
In the coming messages and radio
shows, we will be walking everyone through the process from Creation to the present, in a general way, having to do especially
with the creation and evolution of souls. Each message will build on the ones before, so I encourage you to follow along
with us. Every broadcast will be on Wednesday evening at 8 EST, and all will be archived on www.BlogTalkRadio.com/ChannelPanel. All the written messages will be sent out by email, and you can sign up for them at www.whoneedslight.org.
The
following excerpt is a short message I gave to Kathryn before the radio show to begin our Program of Soul Studies last Wednesday,
Feb. 25, 2015. I began with this part of the story so that you would have a bit of an explanation of how I learned about
Creation. I continued the story on the radio, but I will give you the first part here for those who may not yet have
listened. I hope you enjoy it. It is my story.
'Every soul in the Multiverse - every conscious being - is engaged in the
process of creation and ascension to higher vibrational levels. It is true that the descent from higher dimensions into
the human body in 3D was not really a descent of the soul, which had to then climb out of it. Not at all. Anyone
- Masters, angels, even I could send soul incarnations to live a lifetime on Planet Earth. This does not mean we "fell".
It means we decided to recalibrate downward to lower vibrational levels in order to experience the dense environment of Earth. Let me tell you
something about myself. I am your Creator, after all, so you deserve to know who I am. I will tell you what I
do, how things began, how I learned to create, and how I created the Universes and you, my children. The Universal Laws were already in place when I awakened.
I discovered them fairly soon, by trial and error. I was like a child awakening on an endless beach, but there was no
sand, no ocean, no fish, etc.
I did not so much see anything then, but I felt energies, knew there was potential of some kind all around me.
I sensed a guiding warmth and Love, (although I had no name for it) and thoughts came to me about what I might be able to
do to make something of what I sensed. You see, I always felt I was not alone, but never knew how I came to be.
I can only imagine that there is a Creator much larger and more powerful than I who initiated this whole magnificent project.
I am the Creator
of all you see in your Universe, and 7 other inhabited universes. These that I created are the only ones I know of,
although perhaps somewhere across the veil that surrounds me and my Creations there may be other life, other Universes.
From the beginning, I felt but was not
really aware of having a second consciousness - a sort of companion who was so much a part of me that I did not notice any
separation, but enjoyed the feeling of adventure in my actions and thoughts and found it was shared simultaneously by what
felt like my other half. With dawning awareness, I began to purposely move in such a way as to create bright colors,
and I discovered She delighted in this game, and would create complimentary colors and movements. You might compare our beginnings
to the way twins in the womb discover each other and learn to accept and enjoy companionship as if they were one.
Swimming in the energies like a fish
in water, we began to practice rudimentary movements, thoughts and feelings. I saw that when I moved, the space around
me stirred with something you call colors. They were magnificent waves, floating outward from me in the most delightful
way. I felt that I was a part of the energies around me, but that I had some kind of ability to DO things. Little
by little, I discovered my intelligence, my feelings, and my awe for all I felt and "saw" happening around me, caused by me
but not originated by me.
I learned gradually to use the energies around me to gather it into groupings and patterns. I found that I could
move and organize the energies by imagining what I wished to create. It was a wondrous process I can hardly begin to
explain, except to compare it to the way a child looks at a sunbeam or a bird, or an animal. And all the while, I shared
my wonder with my twin, and we began to feel a strong and joyful feeling toward each other. We were as aware of our
natural affinity as an infant is of its toes and fingers. It grew as we grew, into a powerful and all-encompassing feeling
of Love for one another, as natural as breathing and as precious as life itself.
We played together, experimenting with the patterns and qualities of the realities
around us, which appeared to us as pure energy, pure potential. It was without form but suggested by its very power
that we could do something wonderful if only we could learn how to use it. One day as I created a whirlwind of light
with a spinning motion I was practicing, it suddenly congealed into a tiny but glorious lightshow of the sort you now call
a nebula. In her delight, my twin created a beautiful sound - and my heart filed with such pleasure I felt I would burst.
It was a sound, something we had not experienced before, but would delight in every after. It so warmed my heart, and
it brought such a stunning awareness to me that everafter, I thought of this One I felt such love for as Laughter.'
Mother/Source Now I will continue to talk a bit about
my Beloved Twin, whose presence has been mostly unknown to humankind until now. Since all in the Universe is built on
the principle of Unity, and you, human beings, have been told often that you are made in the image of your Creator, it is
logical, is it not, that your Creators are both mother and father? All beings - animals and even plants recreate themselves
by some process resembling intimate pairings, energy exchanges representing a kind of sexual interaction. Does it not
seem only reasonable that your Creator is not a single male figure, but a pair?
Now, let us clear up a simple but presently troublesome question
on surface Earth. What about homosexual couples? Well, Dear Ones, is it not obvious that sexuality is not simply
anatomical? The categories of male and female are not exclusive in any being. Each human carries within them the
essences of both. It is only during the process of development in the womb that the proclivity to identify oneself as
either male or female is established. In recent generations, we have asked many of our Masters to come to Earth in what
you call "gay" suits in order to teach this profound lesson.
So, there you are. This is our first lesson in the sexuality of soul expression. Now,
another explanation is in order here. You have come to know the one called Father God through the messages given to
Kathryn in "When God Pinched My Toe." I hope it is not too confusing to you, but I will explain. I asked Sanat
Kumara and Sananda to pave the way for me by talking with you in a very direct and companionable way. Sanat and Lady
Venus worked very hard as my surrogates to introduce you to us, and to let you know how involved we are in your lives.
They did a wonderful job of portraying Mother and Father God, did they not? While I concentrated on creating new Universes
for all, they carefully educated you in what was to come.
Now you will have another part of the story, and that is that their important message is indeed true:
You are God, I am God, We are all Gods, and we are One. You are now familiar with many of the Company of Heaven, through
these messages and others, and you will soon know much more. You will learn that many of those you have thought of as
Gods above you are in fact your twin counterparts, your family of brothers and sisters, and your Galactic friends, all in
one. You have wonderful adventures in store.
Now, let us continue with my favorite subject, Mother Source, or as you may now wish to call her,
Mother God. As I mentioned on the radio show, we spent countless years learning, experimenting, creating carefully with
our Love, leading up to what you are experiencing on Earth, in this moment of Earth time. Every creation along the way
was a result of combining our mind, heart and spirit in the process of Creation.
I tend to focus my attention outward and onward, and every spark
of my imagination ignites a deep recognition and intuition in my Beloved. Together we envision far more elegantly than
I could do alone. In fact, I would have made a mess of things many times over if not for her foresight and deep understanding
of the implications and intricacies of our creative process. Her ability to feel her way toward the fulfillment of our
goals fascinates me. On the ground, you call it "feminine intuition." I think of it as her Light which penetrates
and illuminates all things, including my own mind and heart.
You see, I cannot create alone. The Mother of All carries our Creation to completion.
It is she who gives birth, in her energetic field, surrounded and protected by me. I participate in wonder and awe,
overcome with tears of gratitude and joy, each time we bring forth a new creation, whether it be a new Universe or a new soul.
You, our beloved children, are truly the progeny of our hearts and minds combined. Together we are Love.
Now you understand, do you not, my Beloved
Ones, why it is possible for us to love you unconditionally, to feel what you feel, to forgive whatever happens to you there
on the dark and difficult planet you have come to rescue out of love for us and for her? It was such a heroic task you
took on, and you have accomplished it with determination, regardless of meanderings into darkness or distractions along the
way. All has prepared you for the tasks we will now complete together, in joy and celebration.
Now, a brief update about the progress in the Temple of
Light. You will be happy to learn that the first wave of cabal beings have now completed their arduous reviews, which
for some required the equivalent of thousands of years of your Earth time in the 5th dimension, and they have presented themselves
in the Temple to address the second wave of darkened souls.
They addressed their minions, the trained black-ops functionaries, petty dictators, sadistic torturers,
slave traders, government flunkies and other dark extremists of the second tier. The audience was told bluntly that
upon their return to Earth they would be without a job, because the structures they worked for - Mafia, Mossad, CIA, ISIS,
and all other cabal organizations, would be dissolved by those who had created and sustained them. Their leaders would
be gone, but there was no point in aspiring to fill their shoes, because the entire structure was about to be dissolved.
What ensued was a great wave of panic.
You probably felt it there on the ground, the growing anxiety proceeding their decisions to go to the Light. Now, more
and more are relinquishing their delusions of grandeur about being the Princesses and Princes of Darkness. No longer
is the job taken by the most wicked and perverse of all. Those souls are now Lightworkers, and the organization is no
more.
As the days unfold,
you will feel the impact of what these newly renewed souls are accomplishing. They must rewire the thinking and feeling
patterns of their incarnates, bringing Light and Life back into the previously dark bodies and minds. As they accomplish
this task, you will see the phases of change overtake them. First, they will feel great confusion, since the soul and
body will now be in complete opposition. As the Light dawns, literally, you will observe them beginning to choose a
different path, wavering, then concluding finally that the Light within them is indeed their True Self.
What a thrilling time this is for us, to see our children,
who had been lost to the darkness for millennia, coming back to us, choosing Light. And you, our Dear and faithful Lightworkers,
will at last find brethren among you in the most unexpected places. Be patient as this historic drama unfolds.
It will soon be unmistakable there on the surface. The first changes are of course in the energy field around you, as
each wave of dark souls is brought to the Light.
We will continue this process, until all have been given the opportunity to undergo the compelling
process of Enlightenment in the Temple of Light in the embrace of their loving Guides and Teachers who work along side me
in this glorious process.
This,
my Beloved Children, is the Ascension process you were promised. Those of you who are already engaged in the process
of learning and evolving spiritually have completed much of the work in a more gradual, fulfilling process which you can take
credit for yourselves. This is your Mastery and your triumph. We admire you and send you our unending Love as
we move together into the glorious New Golden Age of Planet Earth.
I look forward to being with you for these ongoing lessons, as you all learn together the fascinating
and wondrous story of your own soul evolution and we celebrate the long-awaited changes as they unfold. I love you with
all my heart, and Mother, the unending Source you know as the Great Central Sun, beams on you as well.
I am your Father, the one you have called Source.

28 Feb 2015 02:12 AM PST Epistle of Swami
Sivananda - 10 Now
I will tell you what vichara is. Vichara means enquiry. It is an enquiry into the nature of Brahman or Atman. Enquiry of "Who
am I?" is also vichara. What
is bondage? What is freedom? What is the relation between the jiva and Brahman? How was this Universe born? Who is the Creator?
These constitute vichara. Vichara
leads to Brahma-jnana (realisation of the Infinite). - - - You are imprisoned in this cage of flesh for
a long time on account of your identification with the body. Cut this illusion with the sword of knowledge. "I am the all-pervading
sat-chit-ananda Brahman" - and be ever blissful. Give up "I ness, mine ness", agency or doership. Become a silent witness. This is wisdom. Brahman or the Absolute
is the only reality. Mind and the universe are unreal. Mind alone is the universe. Action of the mind alone is karma. Renunciation of egoism and
desires constitutes real renunciation. This leads to atma-jnana (self-knowledge). Practise brahma-vichara and you will soon
attain Self-realisation. - - - Identification with the body is bondage. Identification with the Atman or
soul is liberation. "I
am body", "This is mine", "He is my son", "She is my wife" - this is bondage. "I am all-pervading immortal soul", "Nothing belongs to me",
"All is Brahman" - this is liberation. If the mind is attached to objects, this is bondage. If it is unattached, this is liberation.
- - - Where there is no duality, there is immortality. When the three knots are cut, one attains immortality.
If your
object in life is immortality, shun sense-objects as poison. Where there is nothing to be seen, or heard, or thought of, there
is immortality. Immortality
is the very nature of Atman. The road to immortality is steep and thorny. The help of a realised sage is necessary - at every
step. | Raja Yoga, Message 13 Posted:
27 Feb 2015 10:00 PM PST Pranayama
and the Mind The mind can be made to transcend ordinary experience
and exist on a plane higher than reason, known as the superconscious state, and also beyond the limit of concentration. A
yogi conies face to face with facts which ordinary consciousness cannot comprehend. This is achieved by proper training and
manipulation of the subtle forces of the body as to cause them to give, as it were, an upward push of the mind into higher
planes. When the mind is so raised into the superconscious state of perception, it begins to act from there and experiences
higher facts and higher knowledge. Such is the ultimate object of pranayama, which is achieved through control. "Then
the covering of the light is destroyed." (II-52) "The mind becomes fit for concentration." (II-53) The fruit
of regulation of the breath is retention of breath. The mind is like a wheel which revolves endlessly with tremendous velocity.
It generates new thoughts with every revolution. This wheel is set in motion by the vibration of psychic (or subtle) prana.
The practice of pranayama lessens the velocity of the mind and slows down the wheel gradually. Perfect control of prana brings
the wheel to a standstill. The mind becomes quite steady. Regulation of breath and kumbhaka are of great help in the practice
of concentration and meditation. Mind and prana are interdependent. Prana is the overcoat or the vehicle of
the mind. Wherever there is prana there is mind, and vice-versa. If you think deeply on any subject the breathing becomes
slow. When one suffers from asphyxia the functioning of the mind comes to a standstill. Mind is the rider, prana is the horse
and body is the chariot. Prana vibrates and mind is set in motion. Mind thinks when prana moves. If prana departs from the
body, all functions of the body will stop. The body will remain on the ground like a log of wood. Separation of prana from
the physical body is called death in common parlance. Prana vibrates so long as there are subtle
desires in the mind. The mind lives so long as it assumes the form of objects. The senses operate so long as they perceive
their respective objects. Prana dies when the two currents viz., attraction and repulsion for objects, are annihilated. The
senses die when they are withdrawn from their objects by the practice of dispassion and control of the senses. So, the vibrations
of prana and desire are the two seeds for the tree of mind. Should either of them perish, both die soon. If you control the
prana through regular practice of pranayama, the mind-bird will be caught easily. He who has controlled his
mind has also controlled his breath. If one is suspended the other is also suspended. If the mind and the prana are both controlled
one gets liberation from the round of births and deaths and attains immortality. Physical Benefits of
Pranayama The practice of pranayama has great influence over the body, mind, intellect and the senses.
It supplies abundant fresh energy to the body, steadies the mind and removes the impurities of the mind also. It strengthens
the intellect, augments the intellectual capacity and increases the power of memory. It calms the turbulent senses and checks
their outgoing tendencies. Pranayama also gives good exercise for the various internal organs and the
whole body. It removes all sorts of diseases, improves health, energises digestion, invigorates the nerves, removes rajas
(restlessness) and awakens the kundalini shakti*. A pranayama practitioner can stop his breath. Even if people break stones
on his chest he does not feel anything, because he has controlled his prana. * See Volume II: Health
and Hatha Yoga A pranayama practitioner will have a light body free from disease, a very fair complexion, a
sweet melodious voice, pleasant smell from his body and scanty excrement. Hints for Practice The room in which you practise pranayama must not be damp and ill-ventilated. It must be dry
and airy. You can do the practice by the side of a river or lake, in the corner of a garden, in open air,
when there is no chill or draught of cold air, or on the top or foot of a hill. In summer you can have the practice in the
cool hours of the morning only. Sit by the side of a river or lake or sea, if you can manage. If the day is hot or winds blow,
stop doing pranayama. You can do sitali to cool the body in summer. You can start the practice in the rainy season or winter.
Do
not combine too many exercises and pranayama. Yoga practices should be done gradually, step by step and little by little.
Some
hatha yoga books interdict cold bath in the early morning. Probably the reason may be that one may catch cold or develop some
complaint of the lungs if he takes cold bath at 4 a.m., particularly in cold places like Kashmir, Mussoorie, Darjeeling, etc. There is
no such restriction in hot places. I am always in favour of morning cold baths before one starts the yoga practices, as it
is refreshing and stimulating. It drives off drowsiness, it helps regular circulation of blood and a healthy flow of blood
towards the brain. To drive off drowsiness sit in vajrasana*, (the same pose in which the Muslims sit for offering
prayers) and bend the body down. Let the forehead touch the ground or bed. Then come back to the original position. Repeat
this 12 times. Sleep will vanish. Do some mild breath retention also. Let the night-food be light. Take one piece of bread,
milk or fruits. Do not take late hour dinner or supper. Finish your evening meal before 7 p.m. You can also sit for meditation and japa on vajrasana. Those
who sit on this asana will never feel drowsy. * See Volume II: Health and Hatha Yoga Students
of pranayama should avoid fasting altogether. They should be careful in the selection of their food. A rigid pranayama practitioner
should avoid solid food. He should live on a regimen of cream, cheese, milk, butter, fruits, etc. [There is no restriction
in diet for the highest class of sannyasin who tries to realise 'Aham Brahma Asmi' ('I am Brahman'). There is no harm in his
fasting. If he lives on alms begged from three or five houses he can take any kind of food, save meat, fish, etc.] Pranayama
students are not allowed to sit by the side of a fire because there is likelihood of inhaling carbon dioxide. The practice
of pranayama should be performed daily with the mind firmly fixed on Truth. Then the prana becomes steady and does not fluctuate.
Pranayama requires deep concentration and attention. There should be no strain in any stage of pranayama. You
must experience joy and pleasure in practising. You should not feel any undue strain. Take sole refuge in pranayama.
Be interested in the practice of retention of breath alone, if your mind is solely turned towards pranayama. Take great caution
at every step. Pranayama
Exercises Pranayama is an exact science. It is the control of the prana and the vital forces of the body
through the regulation of the breath. A correct habit of breathing must be established by the regular practice of pranayama.
In ordinary worldly persons the breathing is irregular, there is neither rhythm nor harmony. A yogi practises regulation of
the breath and establishes harmony. When the breath is regulated, when there is harmony, the breath will be moving evenly
within the nostrils. Preliminary Exercises 1. Sit on any comfortable
asana. Keep the head, neck and trunk in a straight line. Draw the air slowly through both the nostrils as long as it is comfortable.
Do not retain the breath. Then slowly exhale. Practise this for three months. Do it six times to begin
with and then gradually increase the number to 30. Practise this in the morning on an empty stomach. 2. Then
close the right nostril with the right thumb. Inhale through the left nostril and exhale through the right nostril; then again
inhale through the right and exhale through the left nostril. This establishes equipoise of mind and breath. Sukha Purvak This
is easy comfortable pranayama. Sit in the lotus posture or other meditative pose in your meditation room before the picture
of your chosen deity. Close the right nostril with the right thumb. Draw in the air very, very slowly through the left nostril.
Then close the left nostril also with the little and ring fingers of the right hand. Retain the air as long as you comfortably
can. Then exhale very, very slowly through the right nostril after removing the thumb. Now half the process is over. Then
draw the air through the right nostril. Retain the air as before and exhale it very, very slowly through the left nostril.
All these six processes constitute one pranayama. Do twenty in the morning and twenty in the evening. Have
the mental attitude that all the divine qualities like mercy, love, forgiveness, peace and joy are entering into your system
along with the inspired air, and that all undivine qualities like lust, anger, greed and pride are being thrown out along
with the expired air. You must adjust the inhalation, retention and exhalation so nicely that you do not experience
the feeling of suffocation or discomfort at any stage of pranayama. You should never feel the necessity of catching hold of
a few normal breaths between any two successive rounds. The duration of inhalation, retention and exhalation must be properly
adjusted. Exercise due care and attention and matters will turn out to be successful and easy in the end. Always inhale and
exhale very, very slowly. Do not make the least sound. You must not unnecessarily prolong the period of exhalation, otherwise
the following inhalation will be done in a hurried manner, and the rhythm will be disturbed. When this becomes effortless,
maintain a ratio of inhalation, retention, exhalation of 1:4:2. If you want rapid progress in the practice
you must have four sittings — morning 4 a.m., afternoon 4 p.m., night 8 p.m., and at midnight 12 p.m. — and do 4 x 80 = 320 retentions. This pranayama exercise removes all diseases,
purifies the nadis, steadies the mind in concentration, improves digestion, increases the digestive power, helps in maintaining
brahmacharya and enables one to attain kevala kumbhaka (absolute retention) in due course of practice. There
is no danger in practising pranayama, asana, etc., if you are careful, if you use your commonsense. People are unnecessarily
alarmed. There is danger in everything if you are careless. If you are careless in going down the staircase you will fall
down and break your legs. If you are careless when you walk in the busy parts of a city you will be crushed by the motor cars.
If you are careless when you purchase a ticket at the railway station you will lose your money-purse. If you are careless
in dispensing mixtures you will kill the patients by giving a poison or a wrong medicine or administering a medicine in overdose.
Even so, when you practise pranayama you will have to be careful about your diet. You should avoid overloading; you should
take light, easily digestible and nutritious food. You should be moderate in copulation. You should not go beyond your capacity
in retaining the breath. You should first practise inhalation and exhalation only (without retention of breath) for one or
two months. You should gradually increase the ratio of inhalation, retention and exhalation from 1:4:2 to 16:64:32. You should
inhale very, very slowly. If these rules are observed there is no danger at all in the practice of pranayama. Pranayama and Hatha
Yoga The chief aim of pranayama is to unite the prana with the apana and take
the united prana-apana slowly upwards toward the head. The effect or fruit of pranayama is the awakening of the sleeping kundalini*.
* See Volume II: Health and Hatha Yoga A hatha yogi unites prana and apana through retention
of breath (kumbhaka) and bandhas. He awakens the kundalini through the heat generated in retention of breath. He opens the
sushumna and takes the united prana-apana along the sushumna nadi. He takes sole refuge in pranayama. He always does kumbhaka,
whereas a raja yogi does a little pranayama and a little kumbhaka to steady the mind and stop the vrittis. The raja yogi's
chief aim is meditation through concentration of mind. By closing one nostril the yogi helps the free full flow of breath
in the other nostril. Stoppage of breath comes not through closing the nostrils but through stopping the lungs from operating.
Pranayama
is a great help — not only to hatha yogis, but also to raja yogis and vedantins — as it steadies the mind. A vedantic
student who is in the habit of meditating on OM with feeling will actually think of Atman always even while practising pranayama,
and concentrate on the blissful Self. A raja yogi will concentrate on that special Purusha or Ishvara. A hatha yogi will concentrate
on kundalini shakti in muladhara chakra and try to feel that the muladhara is pierced and kundalini is moving towards svadhisthana*.
*
See Volume II: Health and Hatha Yoga Just as a goldsmith removes the impurities of gold by heating it in the hot
furnace by strongly blowing the blow-pipe, so also the yoga student removes the impurities of the body and the senses by blowing
his lungs, i.e. by practising pranayama. Twelve pranayamas constitute one pratyahara. Twelve pratyaharas constitute
one dharana. Twelve dharanas make up dhyana (meditation). Twelve dhyanas will constitute samadhi. For instance, retention
of breath for twelve seconds will constitute one pranayama. Twelve such pranayamas, i.e. retention of breath for two minutes
and twenty-four seconds will make up one pratyahara; twelve such pratyaharas (i.e. retention of breath for twenty-eight minutes
and forty-eight seconds) will constitute one dharana; twelve such dharanas, i.e. retention of breath or fixing the mind on
an object or point for five hours, forty-five minutes and thirty-six seconds will constitute one dhyana; twelve such dhyanas,
i.e. retention of breath for two days, twenty-one hours, seven minutes and twelve seconds will constitute one samadhi. Yogi
Goraksha holds that retention of breath for two hours constitutes one dharana, for twenty-four hours one dhyana, for twelve
days one samadhi. Pranayama
and Pratyahara It is very difficult to say where pranayama ends and pratyahara (sense control) begins. Those
who practise pranayama four times daily at the rate of 80 retentions per sitting can get success in pratyahara generally within
three months. If you are able to suspend the breath for three minutes or till you count 180 times OM mentally, you will be
able to do pratyahara to some extent. Those who have practised pranayama at the ratio of 20:80:40 for one hour daily, for
six months, will be able to do pratyahara to a small degree. PRATYAHARA "Pratyahara is that by which the senses do not associate with their own objects, and imitate,
as it were, the nature of the mind-stuff (chitta)." (II-54) "Thence comes the supreme mastery over
the senses." (II-55) Pratyahara (sense-control) is derived from the verbal root, hri, meaning to draw. Hence, pratyahara
means drawing back or withdrawing the senses and the mind from the sensual and external objects and making them almost fuse
with the mind, the fountain-head of all faculties. The senses are held in check by this practice. From pratyahara starts the
real inner spiritual life. The external world is shut out. The yoga student should practise pratyahara
after getting some success in the practice of yama, niyama, asana and pranayama, which prepare the aspirant for its practice.
The mind is rendered calm by the practice of celibacy and non-covetousness. Asana and pranayama squeeze out restlessness;
pranayama checks the outgoing tendencies. Now the mind can be easily detached and the senses can be absorbed in the prana
or mind. Pratyahara or sense-control gives inner spiritual strength and great peace of mind. It develops willpower and removes
all sorts of distractions. Pratyahara automatically follows the practice of pranayama. When the life-force
is controlled by regulation or restraint of the breath, the senses become thinned out. They are starved to death. They get
emaciated. They cannot hiss now when they come in contact with their objects. There is an externalizing or objectifying
power in the mind. It is the outgoing tendency of the mind, due to restlessness. When the vision is turned outward the rush
of fleeting events engages the mind and the outgoing energies of the mind begin to play. The mind is drawn towards objects.
Further, on account of force of habit, the ears and eyes at once run towards sounds. Objects and desires are an externalizing
force. A restless, aggressive man full of desires can never dream of an inner spiritual life. He is absolutely unfit for the
practice of introspection. When the outgoing tendencies of the mind are arrested, when the mind is retained within the heart
and when all its attention is turned on itself alone, that condition is known as antarmukha vritti, where the mind turns inward
owing to increase in purity (sattva). The spiritual aspirant can do a lot of spiritual practice when he has this inward movement
of the mind. Dispassion and introspection help a lot in the attainment of this mental state. Through
constant spiritual practice the mind must be checked from externalising. It must be made to move towards God, its original
home. Mind is the commander-in-chief. The senses are the soldiers. The senses cannot do anything without
the co-operation of the mind. The senses cannot perform anything independently. They can operate only in company with the
mind. If you can disconnect the mind from the senses there will automatically be abstraction of the senses. An unsteady
posture, too much talking, too much mixing, too much work, too much food, too much walking, too much worldly activity and
poking the nose in other's affairs produce much distraction in the mind and stand in the way of the practice of sense-control.
They fill the mind with worldly impressions and generate lower emotions. When you mix with people during work, again and again
fix the mind on your goal. Rest in your background of thought, either of a form or an abstract idea. This will serve as a
strong fortress to protect you from the onslaught of worldly thoughts. Raja yoga methods are all exact and scientific.
They are all rigid graduated practices. The yoga student places his foot cautiously in the ladder of raja yoga. The steps
or stages are well tried by yoga experts. The yoga 'tablets' were prepared in the yoga laboratory after careful scrutiny,
investigation and research. They are not haphazard products of charlatans. Move steadily and cautiously and attain eternal
bliss. First
withdraw the senses from the objects, then withdraw the mind from the senses through dispassion, discrimination and practice;
then withdraw the mind from the prana by practising retention of breath. Now plunge yourself in God or the Absolute by withdrawing
all thoughts, just as the sun plunges into the horizon in the evening by withdrawing its rays. Practise these again and again.
Practise eternal vigilance, discrimination, enquiry, determination and resolution. Now nirvikalpa samadhi will supervene,
you will realise your essential nature. You will be freed from the cycle of births and deaths. Purification,
meditation, illumination and absorption are the four processes in any form of yoga. Purify your mind first, then practise
regular meditation. You will attain illumination and there will be absorption. The mind will be absorbed in Brahman, the individual
soul will merge in the Supreme Soul and you will attain moksha or liberation. That yoga student who jumps
at once to the practice of meditation without practising abstraction, is a deluded soul. He will have no success in contemplation.
Pratyahara
is a trying discipline indeed. It is disgusting in the beginning, but later on it becomes very interesting. You will feel
inner strength. It demands considerable patience and perseverance. It will give you tremendous power. You will develop immense
willpower. During the course of practice the senses will run again and again like wild bulls towards objects. You will have
to withdraw them again and again and fix the mind on the goal just as the cart-driver drags the impetuous bulls and fixes
them to the yoke. You must drag the senses gently. Some aspirants draw them vehemently. That is the reason why they experience
a little headache occasionally. You should practise withdrawal of the senses one by one. Deal with the most
turbulent sense first. Practise pratyahara of that particular sense to start with. Then you can take up another sense. If
you try to manipulate them all at a time, you will gain no success. The task will be an up-hill work. You will feel quite
exhausted. Partial success in the practice of control will not help the yoga student much. If dispassion
wanes and if there is slackness in the practice, the senses may again become turbulent. That is the reason why Lord Krishna
says to Arjuna: "O son of Kunti, the excited senses of even a wise man, though he be striving, impetuously carry away his
mind. Such of the roving senses as the mind yields to, carry away the understanding, just as the gale carries away a ship
upon the waters." (Bhagavad Gita II-60 and 67) Attain victory over posture, keep a steady pose; be regular
in the practice of pranayama; cultivate dispassion, enquiry and discrimination and always look into the defects of a sensual
life such as reaction after enjoyment, pain, cravings, etc. Develop serenity, contentment, patience; be persevering, tenacious
and ever vigilant. Pray to the Lord, sing, do japa and obtain the divine grace. Observe mauna, moderation in diet, practise
celibacy, stick to resolves, live in seclusion. Be bold, be pure, be wise. Have company of the good and the wise, and give
up evil company. You will have success in control of the senses. There are several methods for bringing
about pratyahara. Concentration is the direct method to get success. Sit in a quiet room and withdraw the senses — this
is the raja yoga method of pratyahara. Have a spiritual background of thought, either of a form or an abstract idea. The mind
will rest in this background when it is released from work, just as a rubber released of its tension returns to its original
form. Another method is to divide the mind and fix a portion on God. Let the other portion do work — like the songster
who sings with the tambura. Having the eyes open but not focussed on anything is another method. If you feel that this world
is a manifestation of the Lord, sensual attraction will die by itself. Have a strong conviction and understanding that real
lasting happiness can be had only in the Atman within. This is a help for curbing the outgoing tendencies of the mind. Pratyahara
cannot produce absent-mindedness. On the other hand, it increases efficiency and speed. There is chaos and disturbance
on the surface only. Dive deep into the centre by withdrawing yourself from the sensual objects and look within; you will
enjoy perfect inward stillness and supreme peace. Nothing can upset your poise or equanimity now. Rishis of yore lived always
in this centre and were happy and joyful despite various external disturbing conditions. Nothing could shake their mental
balance. The wife of sage Tiruvalluvar had remarkable success in the practice of pratyahara. She carried
a pot of water on her head amidst a big crowd without allowing a drop of water to fall down. Suka Deva also had wonderful
success. He was tested by King Janaka in his palace. King Janaka arranged for music and dancing parties all around his palace
to distract the attention of Suka Deva. There were various kinds of shows and entertainments. Suka Deva was asked to carry
in his hand a cup of milk that was filled to the very brim and make three rounds of the palace without allowing even a drop
to overflow and fall on the ground. Suka Deva had complete success in his attempt as he was fully established in pratyahara.
Nothing could distract his mind. He who is proficient in pratyahara can enter into deep sleep the moment he
lies down on his bed. Napoleon could do this as he was very proficient. That yogi who is well established in pratyahara can
meditate calmly even on the battle-field where countless machine guns roar in a continuous stream. Success
in pratyahara depends upon the strength of past yoga impressions which the yoga student possesses. He who has practised yama,
niyama, asana, pranayama and pratyahara in his previous births to some extent, will have success in pratyahara within a short
time in this birth. A beginner who attempts to practise yoga for the first time in this birth, who has no previous impressions
of past births to his credit, may take a long time to achieve some definite positive realisation in pratyahara. One can decide
whether he is a new practitioner in yoga or an old yoga student from his own experiences and degree of success in his practice
in this birth. |
