Subject: “About Helping Others”

Thought Adjuster: “Every decision you make with the intent to benefit others, is always a good decision. However, you must question if you really are helping when solving other people’s problems. As with everything else, you must aim for balance. You need to invest some time in taking care of your health and your personal well-being, but this time has to be managed so you can also dedicate some time to lovingly serving your siblings.

“How often do human beings avoid serving those who need help most because it may be inopportune or it may cause bother! Many among you think that you might be willing to help your brothers and sisters as long as they arrive at the right moment and when you are not busy with your so-called important things.

“Your jobs are important and becoming responsible is a valuable lesson one needs to learn. However, one’s anxieties and one’s urgencies seldom have anything to do with reality. No moment should be inopportune when others need help. No action that takes you away from your comfort zone for you to lend a hand to your siblings should be considered to be a bother because it is in the surprises and in the unexpected where the Father provides us all with opportunities to grow and become increasingly like Him.

“You are not expected to be the one who takes care of all the dispossessed in this world. There are enough mortals on Urantia to prevent anybody from being stranded or from lacking what they need to live a fulfilling life, if only you would mutually help each other. However, learn to know when somebody within your circle needs help because you, students on the path, may be the only ones in that situation who can provide real and meaningful assistance. Regardless of how lost their soul might be or how wrong those mortals’ desires might be, you can always find ‘something inside you’ with which to give them a push in the right direction and let them glimpse their eternal destiny.

“The goal of perfection is a goal you will only achieve together, helping each other and sharing what our Father has placed within your hearts and minds. God lives inside human beings and reveals Himself through you. And only when you see all the pieces working in harmony can you discern with more clarity the presence of God in your world.”

Such is the Mind
There is no limit to the power of the human mind. The more concentrated it is, the more power is brought to bear on one point. You are born to concentrate the mind on God after collecting the mental rays that are dissipated on various objects. That is your important duty. You forget the duty on account of moha (attachment) to the family, children, name and fame, money, power and position.
Mind is compared to quicksilver, because its rays are scattered over various objects. It is compared to a monkey, because it jumps from one object to another. It is compared to moving air, because it is restless. It is compared to a furious elephant, because of its passionate impetuosity.
Mind is known by the name 'great bird', because it jumps from one object to another just as a bird jumps from one twig to another, from one tree to another. Raja Yoga teaches us how to concentrate the mind and then how to ransack the innermost recess of our mind.
Concentration is opposed to sensuous desires, as is bliss to flurry and worry, sustained thinking to perplexity, applied thinking to sloth and torpor, rapture to ill-will.
So long as the thoughts of one are not thoroughly destroyed through persistent practice, he should ever be concentrating his mind on one truth at a time. Through such unremitting practice, one-pointedness of the mind will accrue and instantly all the hosts of thoughts will vanish.
To remove this tossing of the mind and various obstacles which stand in the way of one-pointedness of the mind, the practice of concentration on one thing alone should be made.
The more the mind is fixed on God, the more strength you will acquire. More concentration means more energy. Concentration opens the inner chambers of love or the realm of eternity. Concentration is a source of spiritual strength.
Fix the mind on the Atman. Fix the mind on the all-pervading pure intelligence and self-luminous effulgence. Stand firm in Brahman. Then you will become 'Brahma-Samastha' (established in Brahman).

Heavenletter #5123 Boundaries and Freedom , December 4, 2014

God said:

You are letting loose of boundaries. Little by little, you are. It isn’t that boundaries own you, beloveds. It is that you hold on to the boundaries. It is you who own the boundaries, and it is you who keep them and keep freedom away. There is a certain ease in going along with the crowd and going along what is called mainstream for however long it lasts before mainstream changes.

How frightening is the world to you without boundaries, without rules and restrictions and some kind of imagined order. You believe with all your heart that you want to be free of infringement, yet, at the same time, you fear life without bounds. You fear you might go too deeply into the middle of the sea if there were no rope to keep you close to shore. You don’t want all those leashes to hamper you. At the same time, you don’t want to be absolutely without them. You like to protest boundaries, yet, they comfort you. At the very least, boundaries give you something to tug against or to rail against. They are very real to you, these boundaries, the idea that you can go here and not there, or only this far, and not farther. You may want to come off the assembly line, and yet you may not want to diverge from it very much or at all.

What if you are really responsible for your own life, and there isn’t anything to keep you in tow? It’s possible that you like being a rebel for the sake of it yet not in actuality.

Ultimately, you are the own decider of your life. One way or another, you are. You may think you are safer within boundaries. Boundaries may be forced on you, and so you learn what is worth fighting and what is not or how to fight or just get past the boundaries. Boundaries or no boundaries, you are your own decision-maker, even when you blame your decisions on something outside you.

Look, if you are in prison, you are in prison, and you can’t just walk out. This lack of freedom is imposed upon you, and yet, if you find yourself there, you are there. Even if you are falsely imprisoned, even if imprisonment is foisted on you, you are there. Physical restrictions are restrictions whether you merit them or not. In one sense, there can be freedom within restrictions. Regardless, you have the freedom to deal with what is imposed upon you as you do choose.

You like the idea of being responsible for yourself, yet the reality of free choice isn’t always hunky-dory with you.

What it comes down to is: How do you come to terms with life as it comes before you? How do you make peace with life or go at it, kicking and screaming, even if you keep your protest within you, silent and unseen.

How as a child you yearned for the day you could do anything you wanted when you wanted, and yet, somehow, that day has never come. Did you turn away from this day or not even notice it? What context do you put your life in? Do you give yourself the illusion of freedom? What are you doing with your life? And what do you make of it?

Whatever you make of your life, however you view it, you act on it the way you see it. Or you go along with life the way others or even everyone else seems to.

Sometimes it seems to you that life is a passing fancy. That is pretty close to the truth of it, beloveds. Life is a passing fancy.
